Bridging the Gap: OZA’s Vital Support to Maina Soko Military Medical Centre
At the Organization of Zambians Abroad (OZA), our mission has always been to turn the collective strength of our diaspora into tangible progress back home. One of our most impactful ongoing initiatives is our partnership with the Maina Soko Military Medical Centre (MSMMC) in Lusaka—a facility that has become a beacon of specialized healthcare for all Zambians.
A Milestone in Our Fight for Health
A defining moment in this partnership occurred on August 6, 2021, when the OZA community stepped up during one of the most challenging periods of the global pandemic. Thanks to the generosity of the Diaspora, OZA successfully donated $5,000 worth of masks to Maina Soko Hospital.
This contribution marked our third major campaign in the fight against COVID-19, specifically aimed at combating the spread of the Delta variant. Representing OZA at the handover was Mr. Charles Bwembya, the Florida President and Vice Secretary General of OZA.
As noted by our leadership, President Sidique Geloo and Vice President Doreen Mwenya-Grant, this donation was a small but highly effective way to protect frontline workers and patients alike. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Diaspora for making this possible.
Enhancing Specialized Care
Maina Soko has evolved into a Level 4 specialized facility capable of performing complex procedures, including brain surgeries and advanced cardiac care. However, maintaining this high standard requires a constant flow of modern equipment and protective supplies.
OZA continues to support this mission through:
* Critical Medical Equipment: Providing diagnostic tools and hospital infrastructure that allow local doctors to treat patients locally.
* Surgical Consumables: Ensuring that the hospital’s state-of-the-art operating theaters remain fully stocked.
* Diagnostic Support: Helping the facility maintain its operational excellence for the 8,000+ patients who walk through its doors every month.
Why Maina Soko?
While its roots are in the military, Maina Soko is a national asset. Today, roughly 90% of its patients are civilians. By supporting this institution, OZA is helping to strengthen the entire Zambian healthcare system, ensuring that high-quality, specialized care is accessible to every citizen.
The Power of the Diaspora
This project is a testament to what we can achieve when Zambians around the globe unite. It isn’t just about sending equipment; it’s about sending hope and health. Every donation facilitated by OZA represents a bridge built between our community abroad and our families at home.
How You Can Help
Our work at Maina Soko and other facilities across Zambia depends on your continued support. Whether through financial contributions or the donation of medical expertise, your involvement makes a difference!
